Sewing Machine Repair
Cotton Candy Fabrics is pleased to offer sewing machine repair with a focus on BERNINA, bernette and Handi Quilter machines. We have two certified technicians for these brands and offer full-service cleaning, repair, and maintenance services. Ensuring your machine receives recommended cleanings and maintenance can extend the life of your machine and enhance your enjoyment of sewing and quilting. Machine service is available in our Brookfield and Simsbury stores, and we also offer home service for longarms and BERNINA 990 sewing machines.
BERNINA / bernette Maintenance and Repairs
BERNINA recommends having your machine cleaned and serviced once per year, or every 1,000,000 to 3,000,000 stitches. This ensures that lubricants inside your machine don’t dry up, and also removes lint and other build up that can interfere with machine performance. This professional service is in addition to the general cleaning of the bobbin area and oiling that you do as part of your routine maintenance.
Handi Quilter Maintenance and Repairs
Handi Quilter recommends having your machine cleaned and serviced every 24 months, or every 10,000,000 stitches, whichever comes first. Like with domestic sewing machines, this is to ensure lubricants don’t dry up, to remove lint and other build up, and also to check all connections and machine timing.
Machine Repair Prices
Our standard cleaning service is Cleaning, Oil, Level and Adjust (COLA) and includes:
- Timing Recalibration: Deep adjustments to the hook and needle synchronization so your machine doesn't skip stitches.
- Deep Cleaning: Removing packed-in lint and debris from gears, tension discs, and the motor housing.
- Internal Lubrication: Oiling internal gears with specialized lubricants.
- Firmware Updates: Ensuring your machine's computer and sensors are running the latest software.
- Tension Calibration: Resetting the digital and manual tension settings.
- Leveling: Ensuring longarm tables are level, or ensuring rubber feet in place on domestic machines.

All machine repairs and cleanings require a non-refundable $50.00 deposit. Repairs generally start at $150 plus the cost of parts. Repair costs will be discussed with you for approval before costs are incurred.
Home Service:
Home service is provided at the prices listed above, plus mileage to/from whichever store is closest to your home.Moving Service:
Moving can be an exciting time, but breaking down a longarm sewing machine can be stressful if you haven’t done it before. We offer a moving service where we will come to your home and break down your machine, preparing it for the move. Then, we will come to your new home and re-install and test your system. The charge for this service is $300 for one way (break down or set up) or $550 for break down and re-install.When bringing your machine in for repairs, please bring the following accessories:
- Sewing Machine
- Power Cord
- Foot Pedal, if applicable
- Bobbin Case
- Bobbin. If having bobbin issues please bring the bobbin that was giving you a problem.
- All purpose / zig zag foot for BERNINA/bernette. General or Glide foot for Handi Quilter
- Ensure your general stitch plate is installed
Please do not bring any other accessories without discussing with us first. If you are having an issue with your embroidery module, please bring the module, #26 embroidery foot, and an embroidery hoop as well.
