Prepping Your Quilt Top
We require the following guidelines be followed to achieve the best result in quilting your top.Quilt Top
Your quilt top should be well pressed with seams flat. All loose threads should be trimmed. The quilt top should be squared up so it loads on to the frame evenly. There should be no pins or other obstructions in your quilt top as they can cause significant damage to the longarm machines.
Your top, back and batting should be brought in as three separate layers. Do not sandwich your quilt in advance.
Quilt Back
Your quilt back must be 4” larger than your quilt top on all sides. This allows us to pin the top to the leaders on the machine, and to grip the sides of the back once loaded. Your back should also be square and must be pressed. A horizontal seam is preferred on your quilt back if possible. Regardless of the seam orientation, your seams must be pressed flat. Failure to provide a square and pressed top can result in wrinkles or creases in the final finished quilt.
Sheets are not recommended to be used as a quilt back due to the high thread count and weaving of the sheet which can create challenges for longarm quilting machines.
Batting
Your batting must be at least 3” larger than your quilt top on all sides to ensure your entire finished quilt has batting. While we do all we can to avoid shifting while on the machine, the extra batting protects against minor shifts that are unavoidable.
We are very excited to see your quilt top and look forward to professionally finishing your project for you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at either store:
